About me and this site:
Update: (I am now 53 – Wow where does the time go!), a Christian, married 31 years to my wife Annie, and have a teenage daughter Elizabeth. Both my wife and daughter are beautiful, amazing women with equally beautiful spirits and kind hearts who have at times (hopefully not too many times) had to put up with someone who wasn’t looking at life with a “View from Top” view.
I recently retired as a Fire Captain/Medic in a suburb of Chicago and now work in the public sector. When I started this blog, I mostly (or at least I thought) I blamed my sometimes skewed view or attitude on work i.e., a sleepless night, stressful calls, or just the unnecessary “drama” that I’m pretty sure occurs at any workplace in anywhere USA, or for that matter, anywhere planet earth. Additionally, there was a period where some organizational changes occurred at work and I lopped this on the attitude pile too. Although at the time I couldn’t “see it”, that particular change was truly a blessing in disguise and was what I needed to wake me up and refocus my view.
Over the past several years I have done a lot of soul searching and truth be told, unnecessary grumbling, until coming to the realization that the problem was me! Or, at least the vantage point in which I chose to view my situation and my life. This is what led me to creating this blog. I believe a lot of people are in the same proverbial boat that I was in and also I believe there is a simple formula to getting out of that boat and into a more happy and peaceful life. So I have structured this blog so you can find and use the same information and general philosophy I used to change my view.
Have I had some missteps? Yes definitely! But, it is much easier to get back on track now. What do I know? Well, I know it worked for me! I am definitely just your average “Joe”. But to put it in terms you might relate to, most firemen are solution oriented and when a house is on fire, we take action! Well, that was how I saw my situation. Moreover, if anyone is in that burning house, we get them out! This is how I potentially see your situation. Additionally, as I stated, I am a Christian and I believe that the view God offers is the highest view you can get. I found that most of what helped me change my view tied back into that Most High vantage point. But, you can decide for yourself. In any event, I think you will agree that if you want the best perspective and best view of most things in life, you need a “View from Top” view! And that is what you will find here.
